08 - Lego Project (Alice In Wonderland) For our final year 1 assignment, we were asked to go into groups of six and create a Lego presentation for Arthur Parsons who is Head of Design at TT Games. We were given four different themes to choose from. Our group decided to go ahead with "Alice In Wonderland". The presentation needed to be no longer than 5 minutes and we had to talk about the story of the level, the character mechanics and the overall overview of the level itself. Here is the top down view version of level design I created in Photoshop: When thinking of different levels to do for Alice In Wonderland, instead of thinking of one idea and doing that one straight away. I thought of another two scenes we could have done such as the “Potion Making scene” & the “Defeating the Jabberwocky scene”. When showing this the group, we all decided it would be best to do the “Mad Hatter’s Town scene”. As we thought it was a cool concept to bring a scene which is only in the...

07 - Hammer Girl Project (UE4 Level Design & Blueprints) Week 3 & 4 by Chris Lomax

07 - Hammer Girl Project As mentioned in my previous post, I needed to complete the forest and whilst making this, I decided to add in a few extra mechanics into the game to make the level more entertaining. Please see below the development of the forest and whole level itself: As I was happy with the whole layout of the map, I went ahead on adding different features to the game. (Adding a destructible wall, a key that is required to open a chest and if successfully opened, the player will be rewarded with gold, a quest giver that requires a certain amount of collectables and will reward the player with a sword, an npc giving clues / hints, two different jumping mechanics and lastly moving boxes into box markers to lock them in place allowing the player to jump onto of them). All of these where made with blueprints where I had a lot of fun creating these. I had a lot of different trigger boxes making it so the player couldn't walk into these zones, as I wanted it to be blocked of...

07 - Hammer Girl Project (UE4 Level Design & Blueprints) Week 2 by Chris Lomax

07 - Hammer Girl Project In week 2 I started to create and develop the level itself. Please see below images of the development of my level design: For next week I will be focusing on the forest part of the level which is the end of the level. I have an idea and have visualised in my head what I want in that part of the level. I got given some feedback on my level which was very helpful, as I wanted to add a little platform jumping phase for the player where I played small pillars that lead upwards. However, I had them floating which I was told isn't a good idea as they look random and don't fit the scene. I took this feedback to the drawing board and I couldn't agree more! Please see below the amended version of the platform jumper which I will develop further when creating the forest part of the level. I have made it so the player will have to cross the bridge halfway and then jump onto the platforms below. However some of the platforms move back and forward (looped) an...
